An exciting new combination of pilates and yoga with the ballet barre

What is Barre Fusion?

A fast growing worldwide phenomena that brings a new element to your workout, Barre is a fusion of ballet, pilates and yoga set to upbeat popular music. Using the techniques and disciplines from the ballet world, the core strengthening of pilates and the flow and stretching of yoga it delivers a high energy high impact workout that combines strength and toning with flexibility and cardio all in one. It aims to deliver the lean toned dancer silhouette, improve tone, posture and flexibility.

The hour long classes are held mostly at the barre using a variety of fitness aids such as balls, bands and in some cases free weights before commencing a series of core focussed exercises and a final stretch and relax.

The great thing about Barre Fusion is that, like a traditional ballet class, you are using the whole body throughout, engaging core muscles - abs and back, thinking about lengthening and toning muscles rather than just simple building strength.

It's suitable for all, you don't need to have done ballet previously but if you have we guarantee you will enjoy taking a step back to your early years at the barre.

Barre, due to its growing popularity, now comes in all shapes and sizes. Barre Fusion keeps the integrity of the classical ballet technique and combines it to deliver a high octane workout that delivers results - whether you want to lose weight and tone, improve fitness or use it to complement your current workout regime.

Miss Marie Francis loves teaching it as it's a workout that continues to deliver the results she wants for body and complements her dance work and the classes she attends.

The concept and the people

The Birth of the Concept

Miss Marie Francis started training as a dancer at the tender age of 3 years at the Weston School of Dance and Performing Arts under the tutorage of Elisabeth Swan. She then went on to complete her professional training at London Studio Centre before embarking on a professional career that has taken me around the world.

From 2009-2012 she choreographed and danced for singer ‘Bryan Ferry’ on UK, American and European tours, including a very emotional last ‘Roxy Music 'For Your Pleasure' tour of Australia. Corporate work includes dancing/modeling/presenting for brands such as Hitachi, Gucci, IWC, H & M, Dorothy Perkins, TU Clothing and Stephen Webster.

Her recent film and TV credits include Walt Disney's 'Maleficent', several series of BBC's 'Horrible Histories', ‘You, Me & Them’, ‘Pompidou’ (BBC), 'Strictly Come Dancing' (BBC) and ‘A Little Chaos’ directed by Alan Rickman.

Marie is currently working with the a variety of acts including The Kitts Project (feat Patrick Allan of BGT’s Old Men Grooving) and the renowned ‘It Girls’, sparkling and waving her feathers across the UK and beyond.

She has always taught both in the UK and abroad and has an extensive 10 year teaching background teaching Dance and Fitness. Approached by a fellow dancer in 2014 Marie was asked to develop a Barre syllabus for renowned pilates studios, TenPilates, which has 4 studios across London.
